Plain Language Summary

We collect only what we need to make BikeEye work. We don't sell your data. We don't track you. Photos are processed to remove license plates and faces before storage. You can delete your account and all your data at any time.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address. We do not receive or store your Apple password.

Report Data

When you submit a report, we collect:

  • GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the obstruction
  • Date and time of the report
  • Type of obstruction you select
  • Photos or videos you capture (processed as described below)

Photo Processing

Before photos are stored, we automatically detect and blur license plates and human faces. The original unprocessed photo is saved only to your device's photo library and is never uploaded to our servers.

Technical Data

We collect minimal technical data to operate the service, including device type, app version, and error logs. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Display bike lane obstructions on the map
  • Show you your own report history
  • Generate aggregated, anonymous statistics about obstruction patterns
  • Improve the app and fix bugs

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the BikeEye service.

3. Information Sharing

Public Data

Report locations, times, and obstruction types are publicly visible on the map and available for download. This data does not include your identity or account information.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or any other purpose.

Service Providers

We use Cloudflare for hosting and data storage. Cloudflare processes data on our behalf under strict data protection agreements.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid court order or subpoena.

4. Data Retention

Report data is retained indefinitely to maintain historical records of obstruction patterns. If you delete your account, your account information is permanently deleted and your reports are disassociated from any identifying information.

5. Your Rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and European law (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and personal data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent for data processing

To exercise these rights, use the account settings in the app or contact us at privacy@bikeeye.ca.

6. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication, and access controls. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

BikeEye is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States and Europe through Cloudflare's global network. These transfers are governed by appropriate safeguards including Cloudflare's data processing agreements.
